Basketball Recap: Avon Takes a Loss

Avon played a tough match on Wednesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against the Elyria Pioneers, falling 70-42. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 336th, while the Pioneers are ranked 93rd).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Elyria to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jayden Crutcher, who went 7 for 11 en route to 19 points and three blocks. Another player making a difference was Cam Bell, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 10 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists.

Avon has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season. As for Elyria, their victory was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Avon will venture away from home to challenge North Ridgeville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in North Ridgeville's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five contests. As for Elyria, they will head out on the road to square off against Olmsted Falls at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Elyria is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 72.1 points per game this season.
