Softball Recap: South Davidson Wins Going Away Against Lexington

South Davidson got themselves on the board against Lexington on Wednesday, but Lexington never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 16-0 margin over the Yellowjackets. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won five matchups by 15 runs or more so far this season.

Payton Cook made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, South Davidson got a massive performance out of Kacie Gordon, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Harleigh Russell was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base.

South Davidson is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Lexington, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

South Davidson has already played their next contest, a 16-0 victory against R.J. Reynolds on the 14th. As for Lexington, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 16-1 loss against Salisbury on the 14th.
