Softball Game Preview: Montour Spartans vs. Moon Area Tigers

The Montour Spartans will venture away from home to take on the Moon Area Tigers at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Montour and four for Moon Area.

The home team had come away the winner the last four times Montour and Chartiers Valley had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Spartans lost 17-2 to the Colts on Friday. The matchup marked the Spartans' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Montour saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caylee Moser, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Moon Area came up short against Chartiers Valley on Wednesday, falling 10-1.

Montour's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5-1. As for Moon Area, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Moon Area's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Montour hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .332. It's a different story for Moon Area, though, as they've only averaged .231. Will they be able to contain Montour's hitters?

Montour suffered a grim 15-3 defeat to Moon Area when the teams last played back in May of 2019. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
