Baseball Recap: Butler Triumphs

While Butler's victory against Independence wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Bulldogs won by a run and slipped past the Patriots 4-3. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Patriots recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Chase Decurtis made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Decurtis was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Butler is undefeated when Decurtis posts two or more stolen bases, but 5-14 otherwise.

Decurtis wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Amir Carter, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Carter is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.

Butler's victory bumped their record up to 8-14. As for Independence, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-14.

Butler will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Patriots: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
