Baseball Game Preview: Taft Greyhounds vs. West Oso Bears

For the first time this season, Taft will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Friday. They will challenge the West Oso Bears at 7:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Taft came up short against Sinton last Wednesday, falling 10-3. The Greyhounds haven't had much luck with the Pirates recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Hunter Montemayor made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Joseph Barrios also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, West Oso didn't have quite enough to beat Rockport-Fulton on Tuesday and fell 9-8.

Isaiah Galvan was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

West Oso dropped their record down to 7-4 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Taft, their loss dropped their record down to 5-8-1.

Taft was able to grind out a solid victory over West Oso in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, winning 5-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Taft since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
