Softball Recap: Wilson Christian Academy Makes It Nine in a Row at Home

Wilson Christian Academy had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They walked away with a 7-2 victory over the Calvary Christian Cougar on Thursday. The Chargers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Cougar, too.

Stevie Cressionnie was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Katie McBryde, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Another player making a difference was Allie Miller, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and one run.

Wilson Christian Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Calvary Christian only posted a batting average of .192.

Wilson Christian Academy pushed their record up to 12-3 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Calvary Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-7.

Coming up, Wilson Christian Academy will challenge Union Grove Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Chargers 2.2, the Patriots 2.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. Calvary Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
