Softball Game Preview: Fort Cherry Rangers vs. Burgettstown Blue Devils

Fort Cherry is 2-7 against Burgettstown since April of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Rangers will head out on the road to square off against the Blue Devils at 4:00 p.m. Fort Cherry has given up an average of 15.7 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Fort Cherry is headed into Monday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their tenth straight game dating back to last season on Thursday. They came up short against Chartiers-Houston, falling 15-0.

Meanwhile, Burgettstown had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They never let the Bulldogs get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. The Blue Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by ten runs or more this season.

Brooklyn Robinson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.

In other batting news, Burgettstown let Layla Sherman and Raya Sentipal run wild. Sherman scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2, while Sentipal went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That stolen base marked the first that Sentipal snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Andi Midler, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Burgettstown always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .818. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Fort Cherry's loss dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Burgettstown, their record is now 4-2.

Fort Cherry skirted past Burgettstown 13-11 when the teams last played back in April of 2023. Will the Rangers repeat their success, or do the Blue Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
