Softball Recap: Columbus North Has No Trouble Against Columbus East

Columbus North came out on top against Columbus East on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive 11-run sixth inning. The Bull Dogs put the hurt on the Olympians with a sharp 12-4 win. The Bull Dogs haven't had any issues with the Olympians recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Bailee Scruggs made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double.

In other batting news, Columbus North let Lily Retz and Payton Morris run wild. Retz went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base, while Morris went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That stolen base marked the first that Retz has snagged this season. Summer Williams was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Columbus North kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in May of 2024.

The win got Columbus North back to even at 4-4. As for Columbus East, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-3.

Columbus North wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 15-2 victory against Bloomington North on the 22nd. As for Columbus East, they will challenge Lawrence Central at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
