The Greeneville Greene Devils will venture away from home to square off against the Volunteer Falcons at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Neither Greeneville nor Volunteer posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.
On Monday, Greeneville came up short against Daniel Boone and fell 6-2.
Greeneville saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brylee Tullock, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Volunteer entered their tilt with Elizabethton on Friday with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Fighting Cyclones. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Falcons have posted since March 28th.
Rylee Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Emily Walker, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Danni Guinn, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles.
Volunteer's win bumped their record up to 15-9. As for Greeneville, their loss dropped their record down to 16-16-1.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Greeneville hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .316. However, it's not like Volunteer struggles in that department as they've averaged .329. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Greeneville couldn't quite get it done against Volunteer when the teams last played on Thursday as they fell 6-2. Can the Greene Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
