Volleyball Recap: Oscar Plasencia Key Part of Team Effort in Redhawks Win

Mountain Empire's game last Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Gompers Prep Academy Eagles. That's more bragging rights for the Redhawks, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Mountain Empire never let Gompers Prep Academy on the board, but things got pretty close in the third set. The match finished with set scores of 25-16, 25-20, 26-24.

Mountain Empire's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Oscar Plasencia, who had 15 digs and five aces. Plasencia is also crushing it when it comes to assists: he's posted at least 14 every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Gaddiel Caceres, who had 14 digs and two aces.

Plasencia wasn't the only good server: Mountain Empire was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 16 aces. That's the most aces they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Mountain Empire's record is now 4-5. As for Gompers Prep Academy, their loss was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-11.

Looking ahead, Mountain Empire will welcome Crawford at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Gompers Prep Academy, they will head out to challenge High Tech CV at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles are facing the Bruins at the right time seeing as the Bruins are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
