Baseball Game Preview: Evansville Mater Dei Wildcats vs. Tell City Marksmen

The Evansville Mater Dei Wildcats will square off against the Tell City Marksmen at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Evansville Mater Dei's pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so Tell City's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Evansville Mater Dei is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They came out on top against Perry Central by a score of 8-4. The win continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Commodores: they've now won four in a row.

Meanwhile, Tell City waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Rebels a 1-0 shutout.

Not much got past Talon Jennings, who gave up just four hits and racked up ten Ks to keep South Spencer off the board. Jennings also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Tell City is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 8-11 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Tell City saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ethan Schraner, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Tell City's victory bumped their record up to 10-12. As for Evansville Mater Dei, their win bumped their record up to 18-7.

Evansville Mater Dei came out on top in a nail-biter against Tell City in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 2-0. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Marksmen turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
