Harvest Christian Academy lost to Hiawatha back in May of 2015, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Lions were the clear victors by an 18-6 margin over the Hawks. Considering the Lions have won nine matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Cael Blaudow made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run and five RBI. That home run was his first of the season.
In other pitching news, Marcus Booras looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Harvest Christian Academy let Obed Lopez and Ben Mitchell run wild. Lopez went 3-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs, while Mitchell got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those three runs gave Lopez a new career-high. Eddy Figueroa, Jr was another key player, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs and one RBI.
Harvest Christian Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hiawatha only posted an OBP of .385.
The win made it two in a row for Harvest Christian Academy and bumps their season record up to 13-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 7 runs in those games. As for Hiawatha, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last ten contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season.
Harvest Christian Academy will look to defend their home field on Friday against St. Edward at 5:30 p.m. The Lions are facing the Green Wave at the right time seeing as the Green Wave are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Hiawatha, they are taking a road trip to take on Durand/Pecatonica at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Rivermen have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.15 runs per game on average), something the Hawks will no doubt try to take advantage of.
