Softball Recap: Appalachian Wins Going Away Against Victory Christian

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Appalachian). Everything went their way against the Victory Christian Lions on Friday as the Appalachian Eagles made off with an 11-5 victory. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Eagles also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Sarah Metcalf spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on 11 hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Appalachian got a massive performance out of Graci McGuire, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3. Kylee Owens was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

McGuire wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Appalachian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Appalachian now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Victory Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Appalachian will take on Southeastern at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Appalachian 3.6, Southeastern 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Victory Christian, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Westbrook Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
