Basketball Recap: Brownell Talbot Comes Up Short

Brownell Talbot has relied on a stalwart defense averaging 23.5 points allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Thursday. They were dealt a 58-24 defeat at the hands of the Gross Catholic Cougars. That makes it the first time this season the Raiders have let down their home crowd.

Brownell Talbot's loss came despite strong showings from Avery Nichols and Nya Ping. Nichols posted 17 points and eight rebounds, while Ping had four points. Ping is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Brownell Talbot fell to 3-1. As for Gross Catholic, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Brownell Talbot will face off against Arlington at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Brownell Talbot's defense has only allowed 23.5 points per game this season, so Arlington's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Gross Catholic, they are taking a road trip to take on Blair at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
