Soccer Game Preview: Shawnee Mission East vs. Lawrence Free State

The Shawnee Mission East Lancers will head out on the road to challenge the Lawrence Free State Firebirds at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Neither team made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

Shawnee Mission East is looking to tack another W on to their season record, something they couldn't quite do against Olathe Northwest last Thursday. The Lancers and the Ravens finished up their contest with a 0-0 draw.

Meanwhile, Lawrence Free State was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Olathe East. That's two games in a row now that Lawrence Free State have lost by exactly two goals.

Shawnee Mission East's draw gives them a new season record of 5-1-1. As for Lawrence Free State, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5-1.

Everything went Shawnee Mission East's way against Lawrence Free State in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as Shawnee Mission East made off with an 8-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lancers since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
