Softball Game Preview: Melrose Dutchmen vs. Benson

The Melrose Dutchmen will venture away from home to take on Benson at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Melrose's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Benson's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Melrose's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Friday's struggle, when St. Cloud Cathedral hitters got past them. The Dutchmen took a 13-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Crusaders on Friday. The Dutchmen have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Celia Schoenberg made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Naomi Wiechman, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI.

Meanwhile, Benson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They fell 10-7 to Upsala.

Melrose's loss dropped their record down to 13-3. As for Benson, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-9.

Melrose took their victory against Benson in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 18-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dutchmen since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
