MaxPreps intern Ernesto Castrejon recaps the Eagles first victory of 2009.
So far in the 2009-2010 season the eagles have a record of 0-2. The last game being against an area rival, The North shore Mustang’s. Eisenhower looked to prove why it has one of the elite football programs in the city, and this time they would face the Elsik Rams in their final pre-season game.
The Eisenhower Eagles, welcomed the Elsik Rams on a Thursday night game, that would prove to be vital in the record books, as both teams looked to find the consistency on both sides of the football in their final game of the 2009-2010 pre-season. The game proved to be a defensive grudge match from the start as both teams offense’s could not manage to make plays downfield, and would eventually punt on each possession. It was evident that if a team wanted to score it would have to capitalize on a mistake made my the opposing team. This proved to be the case in the second quarter, when Quarterback Kurt Lambert II threw a 45 yard bomb to a fellow Elsik receiver, but with a fantastic coverage by Corner Allen Veazie currently being recruited by the University of Minnesota;

intercepted the ball, and gave the Eagles fantastic field position which would be capitalized by RB Travion Taylor which would put the Eagles on the board 7-0 with the extra point by Kicker Jose Martinez. The Rams took possession on offense, which had struggled to this moment in the first half, but came out punching this series as if they had been doing it all night. The Rams run a two back offense which proved lethal in this series as they pounded the Eagle defense over 70 yards into the red zone with a 40 yard pass from Lambert to Bradley. The Rams looked as if they would try to get the touchdown with the passing game because the Eagles have outstanding nose guard #99 Jay Guy who is currently being recruited by UCLA. The Ram’s decided to run a sweep to running back Jerry Bynum who would dance his way into the end zone tying the game 7-7 after the Jaime Payes extra point.
After this the game once again locked up with a defensive performance by both teams. Before the half the Elsik Rams seemed to have possession, and would run out the clock, but after a wild coaching decision, the Rams punted on a 3rd down while the clock was about to expire. Less than 40 seconds later, James Jones #20 would wiggle his way 40 yards downfield on a spectacular run, and would send the Eagles with the score 14-7 over the Elsik Rams into the half.
The game would finish as it did before the half with the score 14-7 in favor of the Eisenhower Eagles. Both teams would prove that on the defensive side of the ball they are very well coached, although there could still be adjustments that could be made on the offensive side. Eisenhower’s next game will be at Beaumont Westbrook, meanwhile Elsik will receive The Houston Westside Wolves.
