Basketball Game Preview: Evergreen Cougars vs. Battle Mountain Huskies

The Evergreen Cougars will head out to face off against the Battle Mountain Huskies at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Evergreen is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.

Evergreen will head into Thursday's contest hoping to keep the good times rolling: they proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 27) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Highlands Ranch 53-50. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cougars have posted since February 9, 2024.

Meanwhile, Battle Mountain played a tough game back in December of 2024 in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 74-43 loss at the hands of Middle Park. While losing is never fun, the Huskies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 229th, while the Panthers are ranked 68th).

Evergreen will have to contain Blake Roberts as he made an impact in Battle Mountain's last game. He posted 11 points in addition to five boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jakob Methvin, who had ten points and three steals.

Battle Mountain now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Evergreen, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2.

Everything came up roses for Evergreen against Battle Mountain when the teams last played back in January of 2024, as the squad secured an 82-39 win. In that match, Evergreen amassed a halftime lead of 49-22, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Saturday.
