Preview: Wray Eagles vs. Y Yuma

Two dominant players in Dori Saffer and Caddis Robinson are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Wray Eagles and the Y Yuma will face off at 4:00 p.m. on January 26th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Wray has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Wray scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They really took it to Holyoke for the full four quarters, racking up a 72-38 victory on the road. That looming 72-38 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Wray yet this season.

Wray had a senior duo take command as Sharon Greek scored 11 points along with five assists and two steals and Sydnee Cheek scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Cheek continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabelle Gillham, who scored eight points along with four steals.

Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Y's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They took a 46-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of Sidney. Y has not had much luck with Sidney recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Alina Moran, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds. Taryn Sheffield was another key contributor, scoring ten points.

The victory got Wray back to even at 6-6. As for Y, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-2.

Friday's game is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Wray have been dynamite from deep this season, having only made 32.3% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Y, though, as they've only made 35.4% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Wray and Y were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, but Wray came up empty-handed after a 52-51 defeat. Will Wray have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get analysis of the match and other basketball content.
