Softball Recap: Torres Toros vs. Hoover Patriots        
        
		
            Torres dropped their record down to 11-12 on Friday, which also ended the team's six-game streak of wins at home. They fell  10-5 to the Hoover Patriots. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Patriots this season, as they also lost their prior matchup  8-4  back in April.
 Torres saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was  Layla Webster, who  went 2-for-4 with two  doubles.
As for Hoover, the  win (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 14-5. Those  victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games.
On Hoover's side,  Hazel Martinez was a  major factor no matter where she played. She  struck out 12 batters over  seven innings while giving up just one earned  (and four unearned) runs off   four  hits. Martinez has been consistent for a while: she hasn't  given up  more than two  walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate,  going 2-for-3 with three  RBI, one  triple,  and one  run. Those  three  RBI gave  her a new career-high.
 In other batting news,  the team  relied heavily on  Layla Jimenez, who  went 2-for-4 with two  runs, one  stolen base,  and one  double. That's the most  hits  she has posted since back in March.  Keilana Duron was another key player,  going 1-for-3 with two  runs, two  RBI,  and one  double.
 Torres didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next  game,  a  12-6  defeat against Roosevelt on the 13th. As for Hoover, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next  match,  an  11-1  win against Madera South on the 13th.
