Basketball Recap: Westwood Takes a Loss

Westwood lost against Sebastian River back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Westwood Panthers had to suffer through a 66-35 loss at the hands of the Sebastian River Sharks. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 300th, while the Sharks are ranked 116th).

Westwood's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jazmyne Jones, who posted seven points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. Another player making a difference was Jihla Greer, who had six points and three steals.

Sebastian River's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Destiny Pickard, who went 8 of 12 on her way to 23 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Davione Stinson, who went 6 for 12 to rack up 14 points along with six steals and five boards.

This is the second loss in a row for Westwood and nudges their season record down to 10-10. As for Sebastian River, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season.

Westwood didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 74-19 defeat against Lincoln Park Academy on the 31st. As for Sebastian River, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 55-33 win against Port St. Lucie on the 6th.
