Softball Preview: Brazos Cougars vs. Boling Bulldogs
The Brazos Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Boling Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Brazos is no doubt hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
After only one run in their last game, Brazos made sure to put some runs up on the board against Hitchcock on Tuesday. Brazos was the clear victor by a 14-8 margin over Hitchcock. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for Brazos' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Paige Demny and Ava Aguilar made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Demny struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Aguilar struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive pitching appearances. At bat, Demny went 2-for-4 with a triple, a stolen base, and two RBI, while Aguilar scored three runs while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Brazos got a big performance out of Maggie Ochoa, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendall Macha, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, Boling was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. Their rough 16-1 defeat to East Bernard might stick with them for a while. That's two games in a row now that Boling has lost by exactly 15 runs.
Brazos' record is now 10-14-1. As for Boling, their loss dropped their record down to 4-7.
