Baseball Recap: Pioneer's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Pioneer extended their winning streak to three on Friday, bumping their season record up to 10-9 in the process. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Westmont Warriors, sneaking past 5-3. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 11-1 on Wednesday.

Jayden Flores was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Pioneer's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 6-9 when he doesn't). Jayden Goodrich was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

As for Westmont, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 14 of their last 16 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-18-1 record this season. Their defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it four in a row.

On Westmont's side, Peyton Hines spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks. Hines has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Westmont saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was James Doherty, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

Pioneer didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 9-4 victory against Gunn on the 3rd. As for Westmont, they will square off against Santa Teresa at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
