Basketball Recap: West Takes a Loss

West was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They came up short against the Olympus Titans, falling 77-51. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 86-36 on January 3rd.

Loss or not, West got some senior leadership from Saladi Maluak and Phillip Ladua. Maluak went 5 for 7 en route to 16 points and five boards, while Ladua went 8 of 17 on his way to 16 points. Those 16 points set a new season-high mark for Maluak. Another player making a difference was Chachi Pan, who posted four points.

Olympus' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Caden Jackson, who went 6 for 11 from beyond the arc on his way to 21 points and seven assists. Jackson is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Lowe, who went 6 of 14 en route to 23 points along with seven assists and six rebounds.

West's defeat dropped their record down to 5-13. As for Olympus, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-1.

When West and Olympus next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. West will take on Brighton and their three-game winning streak at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. West is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.2 points per game this season. Similarly, Olympus will try to stop Highland's five-game winning streak when the meet at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
