East Carteret had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Goldsboro on Friday. East Carteret never let Goldsboro get on the board and left with a 9-0 victory. Considering the Mariners have won five games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Chase Roberson, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Jacob Grimm also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for West Carteret, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out New Bern 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Patriots have posted since April 16, 2024.
Willis Langley looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.
At the plate, Riley Jones was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Josh Johnson, who scored a run and stole Two bases.
The victory got West Carteret back to even at 3-3. As for East Carteret, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-0.
West Carteret's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: East Carteret hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .352. It's a different story for West Carteret, though, as they've only averaged .254. Will they be able to contain East Carteret's hitters?
