Mount Tabor's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 29-27 win over the Northwest Guilford Vikings. The Spartans' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Jayden Muhfooth Smith was his usual excellent self, rushing for 96 yards and three TDs on only 12 carries, while also picking up 66 receiving yards.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Mount Tabor proved: they limited Northwest Guilford to a paltry 0.9 yards per carry. The team can thank Jock Hunder for the heroic effort on defense: he. Mount Tabor's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 5.4.

Mount Tabor's defense didn't let Ferrell Price., get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for five sacks. In that department, Taryton Thacker was the leader with three sacks. Northwest Guilford's loss came despite strong showings from Rakem Hammock and Price. Mount Tabor's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Northwest Guilford, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Coming up, after each having a week off, Mount Tabor and North Davidson will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. on October 3. The Black Knights' defense has only allowed 14.4 points per game this season, so the Spartans' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Northwest Guilford, they will take on Reagan at 7:00 p.m. on October 3. The matchup will give the Vikings their first taste of in-conference action this season.
