Football Recap: Payette Skates Past Nyssa with Ease

Payette put their dominant defense on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Nyssa Bulldogs 44-0. Fans of the Pirates have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.

Darrien Pecunia was a one-man wrecking crew as he rushed for 106 yards and a pair of scores on only five carries, and also threw for 94 yards and two touchdowns on only eight passes. What's more, he racked up 103.1 passer rating, the most he's had since back in September of 2024. Jahzyon Sylva was in the mix too, providing Payette with two TDs.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Payette was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 240 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 151 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Payette's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Ethan Chase, Sylva, and Jayden Barerra, who each picked up one sack apiece. Chase was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making eight total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Payette's victory bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Nyssa, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Payette will square off against Marsing at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Nyssa, they will take on La Pine at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
