The Pinconning Spartans will head out on the road to take on the Grayling Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
Last Thursday, Pinconning made easy work of Harrison and carried off a 17-1 victory. With that win, the Spartans brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
Kaylee Rugenstein was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most hits she has posted over her last nine matchups. The team also got some help courtesy of Layla Foco, who went 1-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple.
Meanwhile, Grayling never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over Manton. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 contests by six runs or more this season.
Jessica Campbell was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Campbell was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with six RBI, two doubles, and one run.
In other batting news, Kendra Allen was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Katy Hayden also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Grayling was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .478. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.
Pinconning's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-14. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Grayling, their record is now 17-6-1.
Wednesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Pinconning has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .433. However, it's not like Grayling struggles in that department as they've averaged .482. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
