Basketball Game Preview: Verbum Dei Jesuit Eagles vs. South Pasadena Tigers

Two dominant forwards in Jaythan Pinckney and Jack Madison are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Verbum Dei Jesuit Eagles and the South Pasadena Tigers will face off at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday without much rest having both just played. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Verbum Dei Jesuit is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They breezed by St. Genevieve to the tune of 87-35 on Monday. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 259th, while the Valiants are ranked 697th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when South Pasadena faced off against Monrovia on Monday. South Pasadena claimed a resounding 82-46 victory over Monrovia. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tigers.

Verbum Dei Jesuit has also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-9 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.2 points per game. As for South Pasadena, their win bumped their record up to 18-8.

Verbum Dei Jesuit beat South Pasadena 54-44 when the teams last played back in November of 2018. Will Verbum Dei Jesuit repeat their success, or does South Pasadena have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
