Basketball Recap: Thornton Fractional South Comes Up Short

After flying high against Reavis last Tuesday, Thornton Fractional South came back down to earth. The Thornton Fractional South Red Wolves took a 56-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Oak Lawn Spartans on Friday. The Red Wolves have struggled against the Spartans recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, Thornton Fractional South still got an impressive performance from Eion Ikner, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds. With that strong performance, Ikner is now averaging an impressive 8.2 boards per game. David Nkwogu was another key player, putting up eight points and three steals.

Thornton Fractional South's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 9-9. As for Oak Lawn, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-6.

Thornton Fractional South has already played their next contest, a 75-51 win against Bogan on the 19th. As for Oak Lawn, they will head out on the road to challenge Evergreen Park at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Oak Lawn knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matches -- so hopefully Evergreen Park likes a good challenge.
