Softball Recap: Lake Finds Playoff Glory Versus Maple Heights

It's playoff time, and Lake had no trouble coming through when it counted. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Maple Heights Mustangs a 25-0 shutout on Thursday. Considering the Blue Streaks have won 11 matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Peyton Ury made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. Those 14 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Mikayla Props was a standout: she went a perfect 5-for-5 with five runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those five hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bella Barr, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs.

Lake always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .727. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Lake's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Maple Heights, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-6.

Coming up, Lake will challenge South at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Maple Heights does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
