Softball Recap: Woodside Finds Playoff Glory Versus Palma

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Woodside walked away with it. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Palma Chieftains 4-3. That's two games straight that the Wildcats have won by just one run.

Hannah Walker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Victoria Torsh was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lacey Barstad, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Woodside has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-11 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Palma, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-15-1.

Looking ahead, Woodside will head out to challenge East Nicolaus at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Spartans will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something the Wildcats surely won't give up without a fight. Palma does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
