Preview: Grafton Clippers vs. Poquoson Islanders
Grafton is 9-1 against Poquoson since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Grafton Clippers will look to defend their home court against the Poquoson Islanders at 7:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Grafton comes in on four and Poquoson on three.
Grafton scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They breezed by Smithfield on the road to the tune of 79-25. Grafton has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 21 points or more this season.
Grafton found their leader in underclassman Taylor Ragland, who dropped a double-double on 32 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Ragland has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Alonni Wells, who scored 18 points along with seven assists and five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Poquoson didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Tabb on Thursday, but they still walked away with a 44-39 win.
Grafton pushed their record up to 11-1 with that win, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.9 points per game. As for Poquoson, their victory bumped their record up to 6-4.
Everything came up roses for Grafton against Poquoson when the teams last played back in November of 2023 as the squad secured a 67-28 win. With Grafton ahead 34-11 at the half, the game was all but over already.
