Cosumnes Oaks is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Monday. They are headed away from home for the first time to take on the Sheldon Huskies at 4:00 p.m. Cosumnes Oaks will be strutting in after a victory while Sheldon will be coming in after a loss.
Cosumnes Oaks is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Kennedy with a sharp 21-1 win two weeks ago. With that victory, the Wolfpack brought their scoring average up to 8.8 runs per game.
Izzy Davis made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Massimo Jimenez was incredible, going 1-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Colby Johnson was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.
Cosumnes Oaks always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .651. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kennedy only posted an OBP of .250.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 11 runs the game before, Sheldon was a bit more limited in their contest on Friday. They came up short against Rodriguez, falling 10-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Huskies have suffered against the Mustangs since March 4, 2015.
The win made it two in a row for Cosumnes Oaks and bumps their season record up to 3-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games. As for Sheldon, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Cosumnes Oaks has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Sheldon struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Cosumnes Oaks came out on top in a nail-biter against Sheldon in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 8-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cosumnes Oaks since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
