South Davidson hasn't had much luck against West Davidson recently, but that could start to change on Friday. South Davidson will look to defend their home field against West Davidson at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
South Davidson's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They put the hurt on Lexington with a sharp 21-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Yellowjackets: they've now won nine in a row.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask West Davidson). They blew past Salisbury 22-1 on Wednesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Dragons.
Mahala Darnell and Hannah Rollins were a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Darnell pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Rollins tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. What's more, she gave up only one walk, the fewest she's had since back in May of 2024. At bat, Darnell went 2-for-4 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI, while Rollins went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI Rollins has posted since back in February of 2024.
In other batting news, Maci Harris was a standout: she scored four runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-4. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Prince, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs.
West Davidson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. They are 5-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
South Davidson's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for West Davidson, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
