Baseball Game Preview: San Ysidro Cougars vs. Steele Canyon Cougars

We've got a battle between Cougars coming up. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses for San Ysidro and 24 for Steele Canyon dating back to last season.

San Ysidro came into this matchup off a tough 11-run loss on Saturday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Central by a score of 6-4 on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Cougars have suffered since March 28, 2024.

Adrik Sanchez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and one triple. That triple marked the first that he hit this season. Another player making a difference was Noah Dupaya, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Steele Canyon came up short against Coronado on Monday and fell 5-1.

Steele Canyon also got a good showing from Seth Steinberger, who pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits.

On the hitting side, Steele Canyon saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Julian Cervantes, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

San Ysidro's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Steele Canyon, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.

San Ysidro was able to grind out a solid victory over Steele Canyon in their previous matchup back in February of 2020, winning 6-2. Does San Ysidro have another victory up their sleeve, or will Steele Canyon turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
