Volleyball Recap: Hillcrest Comes Up Short in High-Profile Match with Shelley

Hillcrest faced Shelley in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Knights fell just short of the Russets by a score of 3-2. The Knights have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back matches.

Hillcrest took a 2-1 lead headed into the fourth set, but sadly they lost the next two. The match finished with set scores of 19-25, 25-23, 18-25, 25-15, 15-6.

Ali Maddux and Natalie Petty certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Maddux had 32 digs and four assists, while Petty had 22 assists and ten digs. Maddux is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 11 or more in each of the last four games she's played.

Leading Shelley to victory were Emmersyn Drollinger and Jaida Cook. Drollinger had 15 digs, while Cook had 16 digs, 12 kills, and three blocks. Those 15 digs gave Drollinger a new career-high.

Hillcrest's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 16-4. As for Shelley, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-3.

Hillcrest wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 3-1 victory against Blackfoot on the 25th. As for Shelley, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-0 win against Bonneville on the 25th.
