Softball Game Preview: Clay Blue Devils vs. Providence School Stallions

The Clay Blue Devils are taking a road trip to face off against the Providence School Stallions at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Clay is headed into the match having just suffered their biggest defeat since March 18th on Thursday. They lost 14-1 to Fleming Island.

Meanwhile, Providence School can bid farewell to their six-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Trinity Christian Academy 2-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Stallions have posted against the Conquerors since April 15, 2022.

Sophia Prather made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over seven innings pitched. Prather was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double.

Prather wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Summer Stearns, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Tessa Eckert also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Clay's loss dropped their record down to 13-8. As for Providence School, their record now sits at 5-12.

Providence School's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Clay has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .437. It's a different story for Providence School, though, as they've only averaged .324. Will they be able to contain Clay's hitters?

Clay beat Providence School 6-1 in their previous meeting back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
