Basketball Game Preview: Cotulla Cowboys vs. Pettus Eagles

The Cotulla Cowboys will take on the Pettus Eagles in a holiday battle at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cotulla is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.3 points per game this season.

Cotulla picked up another tournament win on Saturday. They took down Weimar 65-49.

Cotulla's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Rene Barrera led the charge by dropping a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds. The game was Barrera's third in a row with at least 17 points. Jamarkuz Ramirez was another key player, shooting 41% from the field on his way to 25 points.

Cotulla smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in eight consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 61 points the game before, Pettus was a bit more limited in their contest on Thursday. They fell 37-29 to Hebbronville. The game marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Cotulla has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.5 points over those games. As for Pettus, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5.

Everything went Cotulla's way against Pettus in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, as Cotulla made off with a 63-39 victory. Will the Cowboys repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
