Basketball Game Preview: McKinley Tech Trainers vs. Ron Brown Monarchs

The McKinley Tech Trainers will head out to square off against the Ron Brown Monarchs at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. McKinley Tech is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.8 points per game this season.

McKinley Tech is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Cardozo just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Monday. They took a blow against the Clerks, falling 63-36. The game marked the Trainers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Despite the loss, McKinley Tech had strong showings from DaMontae Neclos, who posted ten points and five boards, and Rico Zeno, who earned eight points.

While Ron Brown didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against Model Secondary School for the Deaf by a score of 52-43 on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Monarchs.

Ron Brown's win came from a few key players McKinley Tech will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Lennox Walker, who went 9 of 17 on his way to 19 points along with seven boards and four steals. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Darrin Rado, who had ten points and five steals.

Ron Brown smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

Ron Brown's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for McKinley Tech, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 5-1.

McKinley Tech took their win against Ron Brown when the teams last played back in December of 2023 by a conclusive 64-39. The rematch might be a little tougher for McKinley Tech since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
