Baseball Recap: Monterey Has No Trouble Against Cumberland County

Monterey won the last time they faced Cumberland County and things went their way on Monday too. The Wildcats blew past the Jets 13-2. Considering the Wildcats have won seven contests by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Dawson Hedgecough made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. He also allowed no hits, which is notable because Monterey is 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 9-10 otherwise. Hedgecough was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Lawson Cantrell was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Monterey is undefeated when Cantrell posts two or more runs, but 7-11 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Elijah Phillips, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Monterey always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cumberland County only posted an OBP of .259.

The victory got Monterey back to even at 11-11. As for Cumberland County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season.

Monterey does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Cumberland County, they will face off against Warren County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
