Softball Recap: Holy Name Has No Trouble Against Lake Catholic

Holy Name had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 13-run drubbing they dealt Lake Catholic on Thursday. The Green Wave blew past the Cougars 13-0. The Green Wave not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 26, 2024 (when they won 17-4).

Reagan Vavro looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Anna Soos, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylee Blinky, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.

Holy Name was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.

Holy Name's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Lake Catholic, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Holy Name will take on Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Lake Catholic, they will challenge Harding at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Skippers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 18.11 runs per game on average), something the Cougars will no doubt try to take advantage of.
