Basketball Recap: Purnell Swett Comes Up Short

Purnell Swett was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They lost 62-38 to the South View Tigers. While losing is never fun, the Rams can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 405th, while the Tigers are ranked 35th).

Leading South View to victory were Jordynn Parnell and Danauje Brooks. Parnell dropped a double-double on 22 points and 15 boards, while Brooks went 10 of 25 on her way to 26 points along with five assists and five steals. That makes it ten consecutive games in which Brooks has scored at least a third of South View's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Laila Beard, who posted three points and 15 rebounds.

Purnell Swett's loss dropped their record down to 3-9. As for South View, they pushed their record up to 10-3 with the victory, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Purnell Swett will host Douglas Byrd at 6:00 p.m. on January 17th. As for South View, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Gray's Creek at 6:00 p.m. South View is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.8 points per game this season.
