Baseball Game Preview: University Prep Value Wolves vs. Triumph Charter Jaguars

The University Prep Value Wolves will face off against the Triumph Charter Jaguars at 2:00 p.m. on Monday.

University Prep Value is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 13 runs on Friday, they were much more limited against Rise Kohyang on Thursday. They fell 4-1 to the Tritons. The match marked the Wolves' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Triumph Charter and Community Charter meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Thursday. The Jaguars blew past the Titans 18-5. The result was nothing new for the Jaguars, who have now won six contests by ten runs or more so far this season.

Gabriel Gonzales was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off only two hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in February. He was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with four stolen bases, three RBI, and one double. He has become a key player for Triumph Charter: the team is 4-2 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 3-5 otherwise.

In other batting news, Triumph Charter got a massive performance out of Elijah Garcia, who scored four runs and stole five bases while going 2-for-2. The Jaguars are 7-1 when Garcia posts two or more runs, but 0-6 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Richard Reyes, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, five RBI, and two doubles.

Triumph Charter kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

The win got Triumph Charter back to even at 7-7. As for University Prep Value, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 4-1.

University Prep Value might still be hurting after the 15-4 loss they got from Triumph Charter in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Can the Wolves avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
