Basketball Recap: Vanguard Academy Beethoven Falls Despite Big Games from Erik Cantu and Kendrick Velasquez

After a string of four wins, Vanguard Academy Beethoven's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 69-65 hit to the loss column at the hands of IDEA North Mission. Vanguard Academy Beethoven was not able to repeat the success they had when they faced IDEA North Mission earlier this season, when they won 64-53.

Vanguard Academy Beethoven's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Kendrick Velasquez, who went 8 for 14 on his way to 21 points, and Erik Cantu, who went 7 of 16 en route to 15 points and four steals. Those 21 points gave Velasquez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Dylan Anderson, who posted ten points.

Vanguard Academy Beethoven's loss dropped their record down to 16-9. As for IDEA North Mission, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 9-12.

Vanguard Academy Beethoven will challenge IDEA College Prep at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Vanguard Academy Beethoven is facing IDEA College Prep at the right time seeing as IDEA College Prep is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. IDEA North Mission does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
