Softball Game Preview: Middleton Cardinals vs. Hamilton Chargers

The Middleton Cardinals are taking a road trip to take on the Hamilton Chargers at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Middleton comes in on 15 and Hamilton on six.

Middleton's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. Everything went their way against Madison West as they made off with a 6-0 win. Considering the Cardinals have won ten games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Megan Button made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs.

In other batting news, Grace O'Connor was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Kylie Klock was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs.

Middleton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Hamilton's rock-solid pitchers showed up for the team's sixth consecutive shutout on Friday. They came out on top against Brookfield Central by a score of 4-0.

Hamilton's victory was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 9.9 runs this season. As for Middleton, their record is now 17-1.

Middleton might still be hurting after the 8-2 defeat they got from Hamilton in their previous matchup back in May of 2023. Can the Cardinals avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
