Softball Recap: Clay Beats Green for Their Fifth Straight Victory

It was a proper cat-fight when Clay duked it out with Green on Monday. The Panthers never let the Bobcats get on the board and left with a 16-0 victory. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by eight runs or more this season.

Elin Shaw made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles.

In other batting news, Laney Shepherd and Sarah Cassidy did most of the damage at the plate: Shepherd went 2-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI, while Cassidy went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those three runs gave Shepherd a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lynsey Loop, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Clay always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Green only posted an OBP of .167.

The win was the fifth in a row for Clay, bringing their record up to 11-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for Green, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-10.

Looking ahead, Clay will welcome Southeastern at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Clay's favor as the team sits on nine straight wins at home while Southeastern has been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road. As for Green, they will challenge Portsmouth at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
