Football Recap: James Lick Takes a Loss

James Lick lost against Mt. Pleasant back in October of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Comets fell 48-36 to the Cardinals. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (34), the Comets still had to take the loss.

Mt. Pleasant had a senior duo take command as Andrew Tafoya picked up 267 receiving yards and four scores and Victor Ekwuru threw for 371 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 14.3 yards per attempt. Those 371 passing yards set a new season-high mark for Ekwuru. FNU Shaf handled things on the ground, rushing for 89 yards and a rushing touchdown.

James Lick is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8. As for Mt. Pleasant, they moved to 2-6 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

Coming up, James Lick will be playing in front of their home fans against Yerba Buena at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Comets will be up against the Aztec Warriors' rather soft defense (which has allowed 27.56 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Mt. Pleasant, they will venture away from home to face off against San Jose at 7:15 p.m. on the 7th. That matchup will pit two of the most dominant wideouts against one another: Tafoya and Omar Gomez.
