Softball Recap: Monterey Trail Wins Going Away Against Kennedy

Monterey Trail had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Kennedy on Wednesday. The Monterey Trail Mustangs' pitchers stepped up to hand the Kennedy Cougars a 10-0 shutout. The matchup marked the Mustangs' most dominant win of the season so far.

Aniyah Whipper and Dakota Bumbaca did most of the damage at the plate: Whipper scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Bumbaca scored a run while going 2-for-4. What's more, Bumbaca posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. Isabella Barrientos also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

The victory got Monterey Trail back to even at 3-3. As for Kennedy, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 4-4 record.

Looking ahead, Monterey Trail will look to defend their home field on March 13th against Cordova at 4:00 p.m. As for Kennedy, they will challenge Liberty Ranch at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
