Basketball Recap: Potomac Falls Snaps Six-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Potomac Falls entered their matchup against Riverside on Thursday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Potomac Falls Panthers fell just short of the Riverside Ram by a score of 75-73. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 63rd, while the Ram are ranked 19th).

Potomac Falls' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Josh Orbida, who went 7 of 13 on his way to 20 points. Brennan Hytten was another key player, going 6 for 9 en route to 15 points.

Even though they lost, Potomac Falls was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Riverside only racked up 12 assists.

Riverside got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Mason Ridgeway out in front who went 9 of 18 on his way to 26 points and six rebounds. The dominant performance gave Ridgeway a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Joell Basue, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine boards.

Potomac Falls' defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-2. As for Riverside, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 14-1.

Potomac Falls will challenge Briar Woods at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Riverside, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lightridge at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Riverside's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven games.
